Reopen the STargate

Stargate fans all over the world are crying out for more. It is time to let Amazon know that we want Stargate now, rather than later.

For those unfamiliar with Stargate, it is a science fiction media franchise that began with the 1994 film Stargate, which spawned three television series and numerous books, and other merchandise. The franchise is centered around the premise of a “stargate,” a device that allows for almost instantaneous travel to other planets across the universe.

The original Stargate film and the subsequent television series, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe were all hugely popular and have garnered a devoted fan base over the years. However, it has been over a decade since the last Stargate series aired, and fans have been clamoring for a revival ever since.

There are several reasons why Amazon should greenlight a new Stargate show.

First and foremost, there is clearly a demand for it. The original Stargate series had a dedicated and passionate fan base, and the franchise has only gained more followers since its conclusion. A quick search online will reveal numerous fan-run campaigns and petitions calling for the return of Stargate, as well as a significant amount of fan-created content, such as fan fiction and art. This shows that there is a strong desire for more Stargate content, and Amazon would likely see a healthy return on investment by greenlighting a new series.

In addition to the existing fan base, a new Stargate show would also attract new viewers. Science fiction is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity, with shows like The Mandalorian and The Expanse proving to be hits. Stargate, with its engaging storylines and diverse cast of characters, would fit right in with this trend and could potentially attract a whole new audience.

Furthermore, the Stargate franchise has a wealth of untapped potential. The original series only scratched the surface of the vast and expansive Stargate universe, and a new show could delve much deeper into the mythology and world-building. With the advances in technology and special effects, since the original series aired, a new Stargate show could bring the franchise to new heights and give fans the visually stunning and immersive experience they desire.

The recent news regarding the potential development of a new Stargate show has caused some uncertainty among fans. When Amazon purchased MGM, it was believed that a new Stargate series was imminent. However, negotiations with Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby reportedly broke down due to Amazon’s push for a lower budget, with a budget of $50,000,000 instead of the $100,000,000 requested by Fergus.

This lack of faith in the Stargate franchise and MGM+ as a service is concerning. As MGM+ is set to launch in January 2023, having a high-budget science fiction hit in production would likely generate more attention and subscriptions for the new service. It is important for Amazon to properly invest in the potential of the Stargate franchise and demonstrate its commitment to the success of MGM+.

For years, fans of the Stargate franchise have been calling for executive producer Brad Wright to show-run a new iteration of the series. Prior to the sale of MGM to Amazon, Wright had been commissioned to create a brand new script for the show. However, when the sale went through, communications broke down and Wright’s script was no longer being considered.

Recently, the possibility of Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby being involved in a new Stargate show has given fans hope. It is now more important than ever for Amazon to listen to the desires of the Stargate community and greenlight a new series. We are closer than ever to seeing a new Stargate show, and it is up to Amazon to do the right thing and bring the beloved franchise back to life.

As a community of Stargate fans, it is important that we make our voices heard and let Amazon know that we want to see the beloved franchise return to our screens. The Stargate series has always been a fan favorite and has a strong following even after being off the air for over a decade.

Not only would a new Stargate show be highly anticipated and welcomed by fans, but it would also likely boost subscription sales for Amazon’s new streaming platform. Science fiction is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity, and a new Stargate show could potentially attract a whole new audience.

It is clear that the Stargate franchise has untapped potential and has the ability to be a successful and lucrative addition to Amazon’s streaming service. It is time for Amazon to recognize the demand for a new Stargate show and bring the series back to television.

In order to make our desire for a new Stargate show known, it is important for us to share this message with our fellow Stargate fans and utilize social media to amplify our voices. By spreading the word and making our demand for a new Stargate series clear, we can show Amazon that there is a strong desire for more content from the beloved franchise.

It is time for us to come together as a community and make our voices heard. Let’s show Amazon that we want Stargate back on our screens and that we are ready for a new series. Share this message with your friends and post on social media to make your support for a new Stargate show known.
